Below are photos of a 1881 S Morgan. The light area at the top and bottom or the coin image is a reflection in the photo. When I bought this coin in auction, I already owned two 1881 S Morgan's, but I could not resist putting in a bid.   |

That has to be the most beautiful morgan I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing.
My true guess is 66 pl.

Yeah, I have trouble resisting the early S mint Morgans as well. It looks like a solid 65+ and possibly 66 and the contrast between the fields and devices suggest PL. Very nice example.  |

MS67 at least a plus may be warranted, PL very close if not all there, the photos don't do that justice. Super high end Morgan.

No, I've been on the clock.  Not to be a downer, but the images are insufficient to accurately grade a coin in this range. I certainly don't see a whole lot wrong with it - undoubtedly Gem - but beyond that I'm not hazarding a guess without pro-level images and I wish you guys wouldn't either. There isn't enough information here to tell with any accuracy, especially with the slab in the way too. Above MS65 you need serious imaging for accurate grading. |

The coin as noted above is stunning with eye appeal. The grade on the coins is MS 66 PL. When I look at the coin in hand, I wonder why it was not graded higher.
I was very impressed with the grading done by the group.

What generation holder are we talking about? PCGS?

Dave 700,
The holder is an older PCGS solid blue label. I was able to track the coin back to a 2005 PCGS Registry Set ranked #3 with the same cert number, so the holder is at least 10 years old.
