2006 P Dime Struck Through Grease - Coin Community Forum

The grease was in front of Roosevelt's face and mouth on the obverse and throughout the center and bottom of the Reverse. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 12/31/2007 5:48 pm It looks like rough marks on the fields. May have been from a die clash covered over or just die wear. The fields of the die is the outside of a die. The devices (letters/numbers/design) are deep into the die. So when a die clash happens the fields touch and the outlines of the devices show. When these are discovered they are cleaned off the die with a wire brush or another instrument. This may leave the fields with die scratches. After a few hundred more coins are struck the fields may even out the scratches and leave the lines more hidden or rough looking. But that is what I can see from your image. Maybe I'm missing something. A strike though grease will affect the devices and fill them in and the devices will be shallow or not even there. So I don't think it is a strike through (grease).
