atscaper Valued Member Canada 89 Posts	Posted 08/27/2015 4:29 pm I feel like I've seen this coin before but I can't place the origin of it, date seems to read 1815. It looks British/Commonwealth based on the union jack on the shield but the other side throws me off. Any help is appreciated. I'm guessing it's a token and not a coin. Report this Post to the Staff

X2an Pillar of the Community Sweden 1078 Posts	Posted 08/27/2015 5:05 pm There's Brittania sitting on the reverse with the Union Jack shield, but there's no date nor denomination (although many early British coins lacked that). The inscription next to the King says "INKI(?) PATRIÆ" which is not the King's title that would otherwise be found there. This makes me think this is an early token/patriotic medallion of some sort. Sap Moderator Australia 16832 Posts	Posted 08/27/2015 7:24 pm It's a British token. The date is 1811 and the full Latin motto is "Vincit amor patriae". Example for sale on Canadian site.
