The 75ARD1 is within its optimum range when shooting Dollars on Full Frame, and it shows with this image. Nice color, excellent detail. Plus the D800E, with disabled AA filter, does a very good job of producing a sharp image.

Here is the overall setup: And here it is configured with two Jansjos: Here's the coin shown in Live View screen in background, two Jansjos, straight from camera: And here it is configured with a single Jansjo: Here's the same coin, single Jansjo:

I assume you have to use a larger cone when shooting larger coins, like silver dollars?

Yes, though you could also make one cone that works for Dollars and use if for smaller coins. The cone is actually the same, just cut a bit shorter so the vignetting works with Dollars. It actually doesn't take a much bigger hole to work with Dollars. The bigger change is the keepout area to avoid specular reflections needs to be a lot larger on Dollars than on Cents.

Thank you for this. I think this is something very doable with my camera. Of course the pics will not likely be anywhere near as nice since its only the older 7 MP Easyshare, but lighting has always been my worst problem. I have bulky, (antique now) copystand I used to use for digitizing. In a few days I hope I can give it a shot. Thanks again for this ingenious idea.

This is the culmination of years of experimentation and efforts. I suppose the explanation of how it works and why would be very good to write up someday. Perhaps this will be my "TIP#2", or perhaps I am on 3 at this point.

Ray, could you give us directions on how to put together the cone diffuser? Thanks.

I plan to make one for a new setup I'm building, so perhaps I will document the build procedure. The new setup uses a 50mm Tominon for full-size Cent pics, and for each lens focal length and filter size a different cone is required.

Is the whole cone made out off diffuser paper and how do you get it to attach to the lens?

Only the bottom part is made of diffuser paper. The cone is a section of an industrial thread spool. It is heavy cardboard. For the example shown above, the cone is cut such that it can be glued in place on the objective side of a 40.5mm filter after the filter glass is removed. This gives a convenient threaded mount that screws onto the lens.

This is some great information Ray. Thank you for offering your knowledge to all of us. I am finding your lighting setup very interesting. I just bought a like new Tominon 35mm 4.5 on ebay. I paid $49.99 for it. I also found an incredible steal on a Bogen FF1190 Mini Repro stand. I found a company that had a new one on closeout, they specialize in radio broadcast equipment. They had no idea why they had it in stock. They sold it to me for $25.00 plus $50.00 shipping. They were not sure if it had lights or not, I won't be using them anyway. I just couldn't believe the price they quoted me. I saw a used one sell on ebay just recently for $125.00 plus $65.00 shipping. Now I'm on the hunt for a decent focusing rail. On a side note. I am thinking I like the newer Vivitar bellows over the triple beam version. I haven't decided to sell the triple beam version or keep it and use it for the Tominon yet. If I decided to sell it, I'll see if anyone on here is interested in it. Here is a picture of what the Bogen Mini Repro stand looks like.

If you bought the Tominon, did you also buy an adapter? The Tominon series developed for the Polaroid macro system mounts to M40 threads, not M39 or M42, so you will need an appropriate adapter. This is the only one I have found that has the right threading: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitutoyo-BD...em2eb5de63e7plus, it's from jinfinance who is a well-respected supplier of lens adapters.
