Life is too short to stay angry... Simply open accounts at another bank or two. Just a small savings with enough to avoid any fees

I would like to say something that I been running into lately...Where I am in Pennsylvania the Central part when I go to banks they always ask me if I am a member?...Well there are some banks that do not ask me that and I get pennies from them...Plus the banks I am a member at I get lot of bricks....Here is my beef about the banks that ask you about being a customer....Why does it matter because if you are still paying the $25.00 for them why would they not sell them to you?...It is Government money not the banks money like they act like it is....I am sorry but I go to 12 different banks and do not have a problem...But a bank I never been at and asked that question just upsets me......Does anyone else run into this predicament?.....

You do not understand how banks work. They are not a public service, they are a business. They want to make a profit. That $25 box of cents costs them money above and beyond that $25 to ship/receive and handle it. In other words, it costs them money to service you. If you are not a member then they get nothing from you. The banks which do not care now will eventually start asking, as the look for ways to save on waste and increase profit.

errorman you are wrong...

It's not 'government money'. The US overnment doesn't distribute coins. They mint them in vast quantities and deliver them to private companies in huge ton bags. Private companies, such as Loomis and Brinks now do it under contract. They put the coins into rolls and then distribute the coins to their retail customers. And they charge fees to cover their costs. The bank pays those fees. So banks restrict the service to (paying) customers.

Those coins are counted, wrapped, boxed, verified, driven to the bank securely, and stored securely. Then the loose coins are driven to a processing facility securely, weighed or counted, and the process repeats itself.

Those are all costs the bank absorbs or sometimes charges for in order to satisfy customers, usually businesses, not coin collectors.

If you owned a business, your tune would be different.

As stated earlier in the thread, Chase bank is becoming very difficult to pay loans and even deposit cash. A notice came on the Credit card bill in Jan. Starting March all the rules start. I find it difficult to see how my daughter cannot go in a deposit cash in my account with them! There are times when someone else either does someone a favor or just goes to the bank due to illness etc. Also, odd they are putting up so many branches in our area when they are limiting the use of cash. I am ready to closeout my account with them. The times I requested halves from them no go as well. Sorry!

It is Not the governments money..an understanding of this will take you a long way. Its the peoples money we're talking about here not bank profits.

I have zero sympathy for any bank. Banks have been here for hundreds of years and bankers know exactly what it costs to run one, it doesn't matter how many people come in and exchange coins it won't effect the bottom line. Do you really believe they don't know what they're doing, and if so then would you put your money in a place like that.
Its all about control and not so much about the money.
Just my opinion

Banks do have charges for shipping in and out coin and currency. It is a cost that is just a part of doing business, but it seems some banks are starting to charge for the services.

Unbundling is a fact of life for every industry.

Used to be your airplane flight reservation came with a seat reservation. Now some airlines charge a fee for that service and people who are willing to forgo the service don't pay for it.

Used to be your bank paid 5% for savings deposits and loaned them out at 10% and made a lot of money. Allowed a lot of costs to be buried in there - remember when banks were marble temples? Now they pay 0.05% for deposits and loan it out at 4% and everything has to pay for itself.

The plant in the lobby is leased and if research tomorrow shows it makes you 1/10 of 1% less likely to take out a loan it will be gone by Tuesday.

I used to have a Chase account (opened it on one of those 'we will pay you $100 to open an account' deals and it was in the supermarket. They fired me as a customer 9 months later because I didn't generate enough fees, writing 2 checks a month.

I have a couple of accounts but the one I like the best is a 'no-fee chequing acc' at presidents choice financial, there are no fees for anything not even for ordering new checks. Downside is there are no tellers either everything is done online. So no coins changing hands there.
We all know nothing is really for free and this bank is also inside the Superstore so once they got you coming into the store chances are you'll be doing more than using the bank machine for free.

This is just flat out wrong!

More people coming in with or asking for coins requires more time. Since time is finite it also means more people (increase wage costs). Since branch sizes are finite it also means more branches (increased infrastructure costs).

But hey, if you think the banks are making too much profit off your money then you are free to keep it in your mattress.

Or find another financial institution, like a credit union. I love my credit union.

Now, that would be nice.

Next step is getting them to keep dumps and incoming boxes separate. The thing you want is to get the box the person in front of you just brought back.
