As some of you may know, I am into CRH. I have an account with Chase but lately was unhappy with the customer service they provide. They either don't have any boxes available or they ask me to call ahead just to come and find out that nobody set aside a box for me. Now to the point. Sometimes when I pass a bank other than Chase, I go in and ask for old bills or rolls. Their usual response is "do you have an account with us?" I say no and then it's game over, I don't get anything  . What bothers me the most is that they don't accept legal U.S. tender as payment. They refuse to accept American money at an American bank. I know that they want customers to open accounts with them, but isn't it illegal or at least wrong to reject payment at a bank just because you are not a member? Just my opinion. |

Are you paying a debt? If not, then it is perfectly legal. Even if you are paying a debt, it is still okay, but they loose leverage when trying get you for non-payment of said debt.

I'm trying to get boxes of rolls or just some old dated paper money, not pay for a debt.

It makes good sense to me. Cash logistics is handled by private, for-profit companies. They make that profit by charging for their armored car services. I have a hard time believing that a bank would refuse a single roll or two to the average Joe off the street with a couple bills, but they are correct to refuse to incur a cost for a non-customer.
And as for rolls, if they can't track you down, what would they do if something was wrong? Again, the average Joe could probably trade in a couple rolls for cash, but what if the rolls of half dollars turn out to be full of metal slugs with a half on both ends? They then call your phone number on the roll, which turns out to be for the Pizza Hut down the street.

I highly recommend key bank. They order me 2K in halves every week and I even asked them to tell me if I am doing it too much and they said it isn't a problem.

As you know they are for profit businesses. If you don't like how they do business take your business elsewhere. Oh, that's right you don't do business with them... you have no private or constitutional right to waste their time or cost them money.

no I don't think that's what he is saying, he is saying as is the right of any private business, is to refuse service, you can go into a restaurant and not get served, you can go into a barber shop and not get served, just like you can go into a bank and not get served.

There is absolutely no reason for banks to support CRH. They are a bane to banks and quite frankly the banking profession as a rule hates you guys. It costs banks a great deal of money to handle coins. To a bank a CRH is a complete waste of financial resources. Our two banks now charge customers fifteen cents a roll .
If you want cheap coins support your local dealers and rummage through junk boxes.

For me, CRH was much simpler when it was just taking the few CWR that were available. I was doing the banks a favour since they no longer had to store or handle them.
I never knew about boxes back when I was actively hunting. Probably a good thing, looking at it now, since my CRH volume was low enough for me to just spend the rejects.

my dump banks have actually been happy that they do not have to order coin in anymore.

 Plus, it gives you the chance to befriend coin dealers and move business their way. I've severely reduced my CRH, only doing it from time to time now. Instead, I've had luck pulling silver and world coins I do not yet have from dealer's boxes. |
