Quote: Should I stop hoarding these?

If it was me, I'd hang on to all of the low mintage coins incl a lot of the commems. Even if you end up with heaps of them you can always use them to help out other 'newbies' by just giving them a coin or two that you know will be hard for them to find.

I'm not necessarily talking about right now, but imagine say in 5 years time, none of them left in circ & even if there are, their condition is sad to say the least.

I couldn't say how many coins I've 'donated' in this way. I just like to know I'm helping someone else to fill some gaps in their collection.

As each coin donated has only cost me FV & postage within OZ is usually only 50¢, it's just chicken feed.

I'm even keeping the good 2005 WWII 20¢ now, as they are starting to be less commmonly seen. Bradmans are also getting scarce.

Just my humble opinion.

I got $6 of 2 cent and $2 of 1 cent pieces from my bank on Monday. These must have been in someones piggy bank for some time. I got one 1967 no 'SD' and a few with weak strikes.

I kid you not, but every 3rd coin was either 1966 or 1967. The others were early 70s. There were a couple of 1980's.

I suppose given their numbers, only getting one no SD was a little disappointing (only a little ).

I also got a couple of unc coins out of this lot including one 1966.

I haven't looked at the 1s yet.

You lucky duck Yass. Getting a No SD form only $6 worth of coins.

I recently started going through over $100 of 1¢ & 2¢, and as far as NO SD's are concerned have found found exactly none, zip, zero, zilch, nada.

I still have about 60% of them to go, so here's hoping. They're sorted into years & whenever I run out of other coins, I revert back to them.

My local Bank is refusing to let me take them off their hands now, some so called 'Memo' from Head Office. "Which Bank?"

I think I'll just go & check all the rest of 1967 2's. Hmmmm. Maybe I've already done them ? I can't remember.

My wife came home resterday from work with 25 x 50¢ commemoratives including 4 x CoF, first fleet/tall ship, Charles and Di. milleniums, cooks and silver jubilees.
Someone made a $50 purchase and paid all in 50¢ coins from a big tin
And that raises another issue -see my post HOW TO FIND THE COINS YOU NEED TO COMPLETE A SET

Nancy,
My bank can't wait for me to take the 1s and 2s off their hands. They need x amount before the reserve will take them back (or something to that effect).

I went to one bank and and they had $90 of them. I still have a sack full of 1s that I might get around to 1 day. I have kilos of 2s that I have yet to get rid of. I think I'll keep them

I reckon I've got about 1/2 dozen 67 no SDs. I can't recall if I have a 68. I certainly don't have the (is it?) 83.

Yass,

Well it turns out I hadn't yet checked the 1967's as I found one that isn't a real "no SD" as there is still the faintest trace of it left. I reckon it's the nearest thing to a "no SD". I only had about 50 or so to check, so it didn't take long.

My Bank said they have to hold the 1's & 2's till they've got $20 & then send them to the RBA, yet they let me have $47 in one hit & then another $6 before they changed their policy. Since then I scored $27 from another source.

I already had about $30 or so that I had scrounged here, there & everywhere over the last 15 years.

One of my sisters has a coffee bottle full that I'll have to secure from her one day. She & her family use them when they're playing cards, so they're probably getting worn out.

Last week:
Cof 50¢: - Vic x 2; NT x 1; Qld x 1:
Cof 20¢: - NSW x 1; NI x 1; ACT x 1:
2003 20¢ Volunteers x 4:
1993 50¢ x 1
NZ small 50¢ x 1

Yass, I also 'found' a small zip lock bag I'd obviously stashed with 3 x 1967 2¢ missing "SD's" in it. I have no recollection of when I originally found these, must have been a while ago, and there were also 5 x 1968 2¢ with "faint SD's" so all up I'm pretty chuffed.

Who knows what will turn up next? I now realise that I absolutely must label everything immediately if I ever hope to keep track of what errors I've got.
