My son, wife and grandson are traveling to Montreal this weekend and I was wondering if $1 and $2 notes still circulate or if they are available at a bank. I've asked him to bring home samples if possible. Oh, how does one say "Have a happy and safe journey" in French? Thank you. Oh, and one of my favorite Canadian notes:

Not sure about the translation into French but the $1.00 & $2.00 notes are no longer in circulation and may be tough to find other then from a collector or dealer.
Cheers, Bill

Nope they don't... and you can't get them at the bank. Some ppl ask the bank if they have any and sometimes they do if someone has brought some in but that's slim to none.

Montreal is very bi-lingual, so speaking English wont be too much trouble.

Thanks everyone, they are in the air to Montreal. I haven't spoken French since 1989 so I'm really RUSTY, to the point of being illiterate. Oh, received shipping/grading report from PMG and the $2 asterisk note was graded 65 EPQ. Soon as I receive it I'll post new picture. Yes, I'm smiling.

I miss the $2 bill....
I am torn because I liked to loonie from the first one I saw ~ I think it was as smart move on the Bank of Canada to eliminate the $1 bill - even though I liked it too.
As mentioned earlier, they do not circulate; If you find a retailer who will accept them (they are all still legal tender), they will probably make their way to a bank - once any bank gets discontinued bills, they are legally obligated to hold them, and send them to the mint for de-minting.

1) that's one heckuva nice note! 2) no banks will give out $1 or $2 notes anymore... If you wanted some you would probably have to arrange a deal with someone. 3) easiest French translation would be "Bon voyage" 4) the mint has nothing to do with banknotes 5) that's one heckuva nice note!

Thank you all very much for your time. They are in Montreal, tired and hungry; and I'm sure the three year old took his nap but Dad and Mom probably not. Yes, that asterisk $2 is a heckuva note and I'll post a pic of the TPG holder; gave it a 65 EPQ and that makes me happy. There was also a few other Canadian notes and I'll post them also. The shinplasters were graded about what I thought. Anyway, pics tomorrow IF postal service arrives as scheduled. Merci beaucoup, mes amis
