We often see this on cents: What that what you were seeing on LIBERTY? It also looks a bit like die trails. But seem to flow in the direction of the rim on the left side of the coin. koinpro Pillar of the Community United States 1781 Posts	Posted 11/23/2015 7:19 pm Looks like very light greased dies to me. This can be easily picked up by dies that strike a blank instead of a planchet. Blanks that have not been washed will have a very thin layer of oil on them. If you have a roll of blanks that have not been washed they will stick together. I have several rolls of unplated zinc cent blanks and I have to pry them apart to get one from the stack. Such an effect does not generally last long on the dies and gets struck away very fast. Of course this may or may not be the cause of what happened here. Just one possibility.
