1944 Henning No-P Nickel Without Loop in RToday I added another Henning nickel to my collection. Someone asked me how I knew is was was legit. As I learned from pyrbob here at CCF 1944 no mint-mark Henning nickel usually comes with the loop R but there are also some that were made with a non-looped R. weight was about 5 grams with in the 4.7 - 5.1 grams for the 1944 no loop It also has the rough porous fields, the softness at the edge of the letters and devices Look for the small dot to the left of the dome above the building like shown below Does Not Have the Loop in the R like Below Edited by OcalaFlorida 11/21/2015 3:41 pm

Very nice ... concur this is indeed a Henning counterfeit nickel. We had great fun a few years ago discussing all the methods to identify the various Henning issues ... old thread here: https://goccf.com/t/53117Enjoy .. and Congratulations! David

These fakes sell for more than most variety nickels because people want one for the collection.

I see, thanks Slamnbass. The guy was very smart to know how to make these, but he sure made a stupid error. maybe he stole the die before the MM's were punched.
