Hi there. I'm a pocket-change collector since I was a kid back in the Sixties.I'm also an amateur metal detectorist, so I check my finds as well.
I was last out on Dec.15th and found what appears to be a 1982-S possible SM. Date copper business strike cent.Never seen one and supposedly the Mint didn't make any.Have you guys ever heard of one?

I moved your thread to get answers to your question. Can you post a picture of the coin? Maybe it took a hit which made an impression that looks like an S or maybe bubbles from zinc rot.

OK -- I will post a picture ASAP. It's 3.1 grams and is definitely an "S" MM.

I knew the difference between the two as I have a couple of true Small Dates. When I first posted I hadn't cleaned off the grime yet and at the time the "2" looked like the SD "2".
