KurtS Pillar of the Community United States 5318 Posts	Posted 01/29/2008 2:30 pm Judging from your photos, and comparing to Sheldon's guide, I think this may be an S-255--described as "very common" for that year. Of course mine is not the final word on attributions . The damage around the edge is problematic, so I find it hard to grade. Still, it's a nice relic from early US history. The damage is distracting on the edges, but given it's condition otherwise, I'd still go with 'Good'. Like stated above, it's a nice relic of USA's past and is an oldie indeed. Susanlynn9 Forum Mom United States 5877 Posts	Posted 01/30/2008 08:14 am These old coppers are difficult to grade. Both surfaces appear to be original, but I am on the fence about the G4 grade. To me, in order for a coin to qualify as "Good", all lettering must be readable and there are definitely some weaknesses in some of the reverse letters. It is possible that, with this coin in-hand I would give it a G4 grade with no problem. Judging from the pictures, I see it as either a VERY strong AG3 or a weak G4. (Maybe there should be a grade of AG3.5) I agree with the S-255 attribution, though it appears that only the right foot of the T is broken. This may be an optical illusion due to the wear on the coin. The foot on the Y is definitely broken and the 3 is slightly slanted. Report this Post to the Staff
