The devices are not deformed in anyway, and the effect is only on the rim on the obverse, so I am not leaning towards Dryer Coin just yet.

Reverse is a little off centre as well so I would go with normal. 1970's are known for good strikes and deeper rims and fins

Kman, I like where you are going with this. Question thogh, if it was a good solid strike wouldn't both sides of the coin be affected? I mean, would the rim seem taller than normal on both sides rather than just one?

The height of the rim can also be the result of how deep the rim step is around the edge of the die. At the edge of the die the field ends and there is a "step" down before it continues to the heck of the die. The step it what forms the rim on the finished coin. The step is cut into the die on a lathe after the die is hubbed and they are reducig the neck tot eh final diameter to fit inside the collar. If the step is cut down too far you get a higher rim. So you can have a normal height rim on one side (say the rev) and a high rim o the other side.

The 1973 cents looked like that. Maybe a trial for the next year by using more pressure during the strike?

I just found one of these and I don't still understand what caused these even after reading the link that was provided to maddieclashes.com. How would this be my Salinger die. It is straight just very deep. Is there any value above face for this?

To CCF azmetaldetector! I would suggest making a new thread, since this one is over 3 years old.
Errers and Varietys.
