I don't see the 59-D making the jump to MS-65. There are some distracting marks both behind the head and in front. Both distract and catch the eye. Now, this would not mean that some enterprising person could not crack this slab, dip the coin properly and sell it at 65 money.

Should you not add in a proper retoning in between the dip and the slab processes

If done properly, you would not have to tone the 59-D

I strongly recommend keeping the 64 grade and NOT dipping or altering the coin.

I had no intention of dipping this coin. I don't know how and even if I did, how dishonest is that ? I like it as is. and the price was fine. I like the 56 even better.

Grovey The 56 is a pretty coin-seems like a true 65 FBL. I'm not wild about the toning pattern currently as it shows up in your pic-but it may look better in hand and as long as your like the pattern, that's all that counts. Where/how did you get it? Do you mind telling us what you paid (as a dabbler in frankies it helps me to know...) I defer to the experts above on the 59-d. In addition to the marks ND noted-I note a nick on the reverse at a right abgle to the bell "crack". I think that 59-ds are not noted for stong strike (is that correct guys?)-is "pass and stow" visible in hand-doesn't look distinct in your pics. I like this coin more than your 56, actually. Thanks for posting them! Don

I paid $85.00 inc. shipping for the 56, lists in CoinValues at $150.00. I didnt check heritage where it is probably going for less.I just checked heritage, seems I may have overpaid according to the previous sales...I dunno sometimes it's all a crap shoot...

The 56 Looks like it is graded properly -- it probably looks better in hand than the scan -- would be interesting to see a good photo of it to compare.
The 59-D looks about right as a 64FBL as well. The noticeable ding on the bell likely keeps it out of a 65 holder.
