I buy from HA occasionally.. but because I live in Canada I have them ship it to my sister and I pick up the coins and bring them across the boarder myself. You want to talk taxes... ugh that's a hard pill to swallow. But I like the fact that my roads are paved, my children go to school for free and sewer and water is relatively inexpensive given the costs for infrastructure. We also have a pretty good deal with our health care too. Factor in those things and I celebrate when I pay my due taxes. I look at a world map and some times I'm hard pressed to think of two better countries in the world that offer their citizens so much and ask so little. If you can think of another country that does a better job for it's citizens, with as much security and social programs and less taxes... well go there! (sorry bit of a rant) With respect to BP's... I just factor that into the final price and what I'm willing to pay... chalk this one down as a learning lesson but don't be so hurt that it would discourage you from using HA again. I think their inventory is some of the best stuff out there... you can find it on ebay... but usually the BIN price is a lot more "unrealistic"... Sorry your experience wasn't great... hope the next one gets better.... Now lets celebrate... lets see the coin in question!

I made one purchase from HA, and have decided it is not worth the buyer's premium to make another purchase. Their customer is at a different level than me. As in anything I buy at auction, I constantly flip between 2 or 3 different sites to see what the total sold cost was at each. Since I don't own anything rare, I can usually find what I need over time and locations.

Oh yeah the coin! I bought the 1833 Bust Half at MS61/CAC from the Reverend's collection. I loved the backstory and the fact that it has been with the family for a century and a half. I couldn't afford anything higher than this now. The coin is pretty nice to boot.
Not really a bargain but well worth the cost for me. I'll post a pic from HA since I haven't received the coin yet. Stay tuned.

Congrats on a beautiful coin! Well worth it, despite the annoyance of the sales tax.

Wow, what a beauty!
One thing I have learned is sometimes it is worth it to pay up a little to get the coin you really want. On more than one occasion have I bought a coin looking for a bargain and then not been 100% satisfied with it. I then end up upgrading it and now I have two coins instead of one and probably spent even more than if I had just been patient.

Quote: Wait, a novice question, Is there always a buyer's premium? Is there a sales tax if you buy from another state? Does this apply to Heritage only or other Auction houses? The only coins I have bought is from CCF members. Each state has its own laws regarding the charge of sales tax on pm's and coins bpoc. If whatever outlet you're buying from has a main or satellite office in said state they can charge tax according to that state's law. Buyers premiums are at the perogative of the company. They can charge 0%, 10%, 20% or 90%+ BP. It's primary function is to the auction company is to cover extaneous costs. The market bears it so c'est la vie Here's a list of each state's laws regarding pm taxes... https://thecoinologist.com/sales-ta...e-breakdown/

Not yet. I don't know how fast Heritage ships. Does anyone have experience with that?

They say up to 2 weeks but sometimes it's fast and sometimes you have to call them on day 14.
