This on a blue proof package. Thw rock at the left side of the coin on the water is chipped, also the the rock above the 2003 date is also chipped. I compared it with 3 more package this one is different.

Looks like possible breaks in the "frost". Can't tell if it is from die wear or abrasion to the coin. (Yes proofs sometimes get abraded during handling at the mint and in packaging.) Neither case would be considered to be an error. One is just die wear and the other is damage.

Thanks for the post. A close look at these 2 rocks shows as if they were chiseled out . Part of the Rock is missing and they look flat, dented & shiny.

@coop, I agree with your reflection theory... the doubled/tripled devices could be a reflection on the plastic OGP shell.

I am using a Hastings triplet 7x & 10 times and it sure is not a reflection.

Are these marks raised from the surface of the coin? If not they aren't they would not be a hubbing issue.
If they are a reflecting issue, then rotate the coin (not the image) 180 degrees and see if the show on the opposite sides of the devices. If they do, then it is a light reflection issue.

Thanks for the post and advise COOP. Rotated the coin 90 deg each time & the chip on the rocks are still there. They are NOT raised but more of a dent which looks like it's been chiseled from the two rocks. As for the west viginia coining that posted with this, I did the same advise to rotate the coin 90, 180, 240 degrees and observe the issue & I found that this discrepancy exist. Where are you based, if your close to New York maybe I'll meet you to show you my collection of error coins. Again thanks!  |

I'm roasting in Phoenix, AZ. Not unusual here to see 100 degrees even at night. The car temp on the dash reading was 124 degrees the other day. (but it is a dry heat LOL)  So I doubt I can check your coins. Follow along here and I'll help you to know what you are seeing on your coins. And the most important thing is to find something that has real value. You never know when you might find the next big thing. Many here have done so recently. |
