I posted this coin to another thread earlier today. When I took a closer look at it, it looks to be a "Peg Leg" to me.

I looked it up and became even more confused trying to attribute(1st time trying) it. The "R" in liberty matches the article on The Ike Group web site.

Is this a "Peg Leg"? Are these rare?

Can post more pics if needed.

Thanks in advance for any and all help...Mont.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe these are the common strikes for proofs and uncommon for buisness strikes.

It is a peg leg. But over polishing is the cause of the alteration on these. They can be found one later die states from any year that are over polished.

Thanks coop. The way the site worded it I wasn't sure if this was a rare variety or not.

Still trying to figure out the Ike Group website info. If I understand it correctly the "Partial Peg Leg" and "Peg Legs" are a variety, and the "Diva Attributions" are the errors to look out for on Ikes?

Confused....but learning slowly.

Yes, your coin is a 71S Proof Peg leg.

The 71S Business Strike Peg Leg Ike (FS-401)commands a very nice premium.

So do some Proof Peg Leg Ikes.

Here is some more info from the Ike Group on Peg Leg Ike's.
