Obviously there were a number of bidders who viewed this coin as a massively under graded piece that must grade MS-64 or batter to rate those bids. They are also paying for the toning.
I took a blown up view of this coin, and I can see from the obverse why ANACS called it an AU-58. There might be a very slight rub on the highest points. Still it's the type coin that would go into a Mint State holder today. The question is, how high on the MS scale will it go? It would have to come out of that holder and get a PCGS holder grade of MS-63 to justify that price.
