I'm new to all of this. Please bear with me.

I have just inherited more than 100 of these. All BU. I am thinking about sending them in for grading under the "bulk" rules of submission. I'm curious what the community thinks this coin will grade?

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

EDITED:

Okay, edited to add better photos, and actually post the correct obverse and reverse together...oops.

This has been a steep learning curve on coin photography as well as numismatics!

In hand this coin looks great. Clean cheek and nice field, good luster.

These are of the same coin.

I took the first two with Iphone 6 and the other two with a point and shoot. What is the "standard". The iphone is much more forgiving. I also took some with my canon 5D MIII and they looked horrible. It was like looking through a microscope.

Please let me know what you think this would grade. This sample is indicative of most my coins.

OK where do I start with this one ... first off I will give it a nod at MS 63. Secondly, are you familiar with Morgan and Peace dollar varieties (VAMs)? The reason I ask is that your coin is an "oval O mintmark" a highly collectable variety from 1888 and 1889. The 1888 oval O's are rarely seen in uncirculated condition. And finally, I tried to identify which variety it is from the VamWorld reference site and could not match that mintmark location with any known oval O die pairings. You may have a new variety here and that always gets the VAM community in a frenzied state.
My recommendation would be to visit http://www.vamworld.com and post this coin for opinions. That mintmark location isn't even close to any current listing.

SeatedNut,

Thanks for the info. I'm new to all of this. These coins were passed down to me. I did stumbled into the VAM world when I went trying to figure out why one of my 1903-S had a tiny "s"! No kidding!

While there I did see that there were many VAMs pertaining to the 1888-O. My eyes started to cross... I have quite a few of theses 1888-O Morgans.

I'll take your suggestion and post over there.

Let me know if you need an assist. Posting pics there can be a daunting task the first time or two. I've already told them you're coming.

Although my experience with bulk grading is limited, it's been my observation that you sort of get what you pay for. I've seen bulk graded coins that under graded and over graded with what appears to a quick glance, a lick and a promise.

You will probably enhance the prices you could get for these coins by having them graded, but you could also miss some better varieties as well. Morgan dollars are not my forte. Some of the fellows who have offered to help might be the way to spot the better varieties in the group, if there are very many of them.

Okay, It's official. I'm a total newbie.

In my effort to figure out how to take a decent pic of the coin (fail) and get it posted, I managed to mix up the reverse of the 1888-O and the 1881-O!

I took the pic of the reverse down of both of them and am in the process of taking better photos.

I apologize for this gross error, especially to you, SeatedNut. Sorry to waste your time. But you get the award for a keen eye!

I have started going over all these 1888-Os. I'm starting to imagine Hot Lips on everything!

Need pictures of both sides to be able to grade. Obverse looks to be about MS-62.
Rest in Peace

I'm at MS62 based on the obverse. I gotta say I was excited reading Seated Nut's reply about the reverse initially. 1888-O is quite the series of VAM's chucked full of exciting die markers. Welcome to the club.
