AU Dets. I absolutely despise that toning. Let them conserve it first.

It is going in for conservation (along with everything else I'm sending in), but the toning would not make it a details graded coin (since it is natural toning lol)

I think it could reach MS64 if it is indeed mint state. Best of luck and looking forward to your results.

I have no expertise with grading the series ... so the grade opinion AU55/AU58 is to be accepted with the noted caveat.
Your photographs show lots of flat spots that could be rub ... or could be strike related.
Someone with experience with this series (not me) would know the difference ... hence my opinion.
I do concur that the surface colors ... toning as it is ... is not pleasant to my eye ... but works for you.
Let us know what the PCGS wizards suggest ...

That would be interesting if there were a "details - ugly" designation at the TPGs. Probably wouldn't be good business practice to disrespect your customers' submissions that way.

Interestingly enough, PCGS will give coins grades of 65+ that have fingerprints on them. Take for instance the highest graded 1890CC Tailbar Morgan, its a 65+ and has some big fingerprinting on the reverse. http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/87198

Fingerprints don't affect the technical grade. It does figure prominently in evaluation of eye appeal which affects the final grade determination. Eye appeal is highly subjective, but critical in determining value, more than grade.
