1846 Seated Liberty Dollar... Thoughts?

Hi all, stopped by my LCS again to pick up some silver and noticed this coin there in a PCI gold label (never heard of em so didn't pay that much attention)... very much cleaned, has some nicks on the coin and rim... but then again I was able to get it for $200 (actually $175 since I sold them an extra Dansco album I had). For the details it isn't too bad the obverse looks Fine details but the reverse seems better than Fine. Maybe net would be fine details - cleaned, damaged but overall for basically under $200 it seems like I can't find anything that isn't Good details or under. Finally took the plunge and now I only need one more Seated dollar to finish up another Dansco 7070 page! Thanks for looking!

Old cleaning but I wouldn't be ashamed of it....especially for less than 200$! Fine to very fine details in this era of coin grading!

I'm in agreement with westernsky F-VF details

For coins grading under AU-55, Osburn and Cushing prefer to use the reverse to determine a coin's grade. AU-55 and higher the focus shifts to the obverse to look for wear http://seateddollarvarieties.com/Grading

F obverse, VF reverse, cleaned with rim nick. All in, not a great example.

For $175-$200 it's a good deal. Fine+ Details - Cleaned/Rim Damage.

And my type album is definitely a budget type set so for the cost and details of the coin I figured this would be good enough until I am older and can actually afford something better. Thanks for the replies!

With coins at this price range, as long as I can relatively well see the details (and I am a bit more lax with Seated coinage because there are a bunch in the 7070) and I feel like I get it at a good price, I am content with it for years to come. My focus isn't so much on having the best coins but more a type set of US and world so tl:dr yes I am happy :)

Holding a piece of history in your hand like that makes it a good coin for the price. Like you, I don't have to have the best in order to enjoy the "having." If I has this coin, I doubt I would ever get rid of it even if I did get an upgrade.

Too few were made, and they all saw an amazing era of US history. You never know who held it/spent it at one time.
