Afternoon all! I picked up several Indian/Central Asian Coins at a bargain bin at a coin show today. There are several princely states ones which I am identifying, a few Sunga, and this punchmarked coin. I think it is from Northern India, but am unsure. Diameter is about 13-14mm. Obverse:  Reverse (It appears mostly blank)  I would appreciate any help you all can give. I apologize for the low quality pictures and will post better if needed. Thanks! |

Is it copper?
There is a series of tiny copper punchmarked coins that nobody seems to know who made them, when or where. They tend to be square, and always have two "solar" punches. I see part of a "six arm" and another I can't really figure out.
At any rate, India only produced silver coins until the middle or end of the Mauryan empire, so I would think the best you could do to describe this one is "post Mauryan".

It does appear to be copper, and is more round than square. I guess that makes sense. Thanks for your help!

I agree it doesn't look Mauryan, and the marks are difficult to make out. You might be able to ID using Coin India. Here is the link to them. http://coinindia.com/ |

Thanks for the link, echizento. I recognize one of the punchmarks from the copper section (the solar one) right away but the others don't seem to be listed. I am fairly sure it's copper but it could have been silver-plated, billon, or bronze.
