Hi all, I'm looking for some opinions here. What effect do you think the new ANACS holders have on the old ones.? Do you think the demand for the new holders will cause a sell-off or holder exchange of the old ones.? Do you think it's wise to have all your old slabs reslabed in the new ANACS holders or one of the other grading companies. Shoot me some opinions. catman

Hi catman
I think there will be some reholdering, of those coins which have a need for the rim to be visable, but as a whole I dont think a mass reholdering will take place.
I can see no reason for it,, the materials as I understand it have not changed, just the ability to view edge printing on coins that have such.

To answer your questions in order. 1-I believe not much. 2-It depends. Didn't I read somewhere, perhaps here on another thread that ANACS has stopped or will stop "net grading" on problem coins that have been cleaned, or have other flaws? If I had an older holder with net grade still on it I would not send it in just to see the "edge" if you will if it's return without the "net grade" still on it. I would keep the old holder in that case. 3-For your last question I say absolutely not. ANACS IMHO is in the top 3 TPG, #3 to be exact after NGC & PCGS. I believe that in some cases even better than the top 2. Hopefully MHO does not effect others tho that wish to spend there doe on something already done.

It should be interesting to see how this plays out. I think Anacs received a lot of flak through the years because their holders were smaller than the average slab, as ND pointed out, so this should bring them up to size? Also the potential to offer edge viewing will put them ahead of most of the pack, so to speak, so reholdering those high grade or key dates may be in line for many collectors. I am very anxious to see the dimensions on these and really don't think they are as "curved" as the photo leads us to believe. Should know something soon!

I think that many of the "better" coins will see resubmitting for new holders. The clear plastic will be nice for photo's and very viewing the edge of the coin. I just hope that this holder is bigger.

Judging from the photo in Coin World I would say they are considerably larger and at least on par with PCGS. I like what I see in the photo but nothing beats a bird in hand! Then I will know!

A guy I know took the photo of it and looked up how big the coin was inside of the slab and from that got the size of the slab....its the same size as the last one !!!!!!

That is "assuming" quite a bit. 1st. the Stella is 22mm. The stella in the photo is 25mm. 2nd. The photo shows the holder at 3 3/4 inches long. So based strictly on the measurements of the coin used, the holder would be taller and wider than the NGC and PCGS holder, yet this is simply based on a photo. Since I do not like to make assumptions based solely on a picture, I stated that I hope that it is bigger. I have seen WAY TOO MANY pictures to believe them at face value.

Well he didn't go by the photo...he took the photo and looked about how much space on the sides and then went off the photo and took the coin size and then cut down the slab size to make it fit the smaller coin size... I'm the other way around...I hope they are the same size!

Again, the coin in the photo is ONLY 3mm off of the size of the actual coin. So based SOLELY on the photo, the holder would be 3 and 1/2 inches tall by 2 and 1/2 inches wide. Again, this is assuming that this is an actual photo. I cannot assume this fact. I have not seen an actual slab, so I will not say for certain one way or the other. The new holder is supposed to be available at the F.U.N. show. At that point, with holder in hand, I can discuss the benefits, including size.

Pretty slick of Mr Taylor and all at Anacs. Look...everybody is talking about it. The ad hit a home run as it did not give any details. The best advertising is when the public discusses it outside of the ad itself.
I will be at the FUN show and hope to secure a "sample slab". I see that a label is on top of the slab. That would be cool as how many times we pull the slab out of the box/tray to see what coin it is?
I hope it is sonically sealed and all. Again, other than asking a company for a grade on the submission, I like slabs for preservation, protection, display, and storage.
