I think I would regret selling coins for less than I paid for them. This is completely possible since like any hobby/investment time will tell if you made a good purchase or not. I tried flipping PM's for a while and I found out right quick I was a loser on that level. If I buy a coin and sell it five years later for a profit I don't think I would regret it. I leave my coins to my wife and my brother. Let them sell them after I am gone even if I only visit my coins at the bank every few months. My sets just grew quickly and now they are in jail and I see them once in a while.

Sometime around 1970 I found a very messed up, shiny American penny. Showed it to my father, who made the comment that at least it was still worth a cent. So off to the corner store I went and got me a bag of penny candy. I can still clearly remember the wicked doubling of the In God we trust and the 1955.......I guess you could say I sold it for a cent.  |

Oh man, where to begin? 1810/09 Classic Head Large Cent. It was a weak moment March 2016 ANA National Money Show in Dallas. I sold about six really nice coins, had sellers remorse and bought two of them back over the next couple of months. This Large Cent was not one of them that made it back...she's out there somewhere.  Finding a problem free Classic Head Large that does not put a too serious of a dent in your pocket book is really tough! Edited by oih82w8

I sold a Whitman book of Morgans some years ago before I developed and interest. Really love to have that back.

Okay, maybe my former 1893-S Morgan in G-08 would be nice to have back.

I buy and sell a lot, and as many times as I've seen this topic... I couldn't think of anything I missed having. ...but ...
I once had, and sold, a "real" 1883 racketeer nickel. It had little of the gold plating remaining, and was pretty worn. What stood out about it, was that they had taken the time to add a reeded edge. The edge was very well done. I still think of it as the only "genuine" racketeer nickel that I've ever seen. I wish I'd have kept that coin.

Back in 2009 and 2010 I sold a good portion of my collection to raise money to take my family on a trip to Europe. I had two nice, original proof British India 1/12 Annas and several BU Queen Victoria Half Rupees that I sold. Seeing what has happened to the price of British India coins since then, I wish I had held on to them. The same is true of a nice AU 1895-S Barber dime that also helped finance our trip. But, the trip was worthwhile and we still talk about what a wonderful experience we had. Paul Bulgerin

You are 100% correct, but that 1901 Proof 1/12 Anna sure was pretty!
I sold it to a collector in India, so at least it went home.
