Spence Moderator United States 34452 Posts	Posted 02/06/2018 8:52 pm @TJL, one way that we can tell so quickly (and you will be able to in the near future) is that the damaged area is exactly opposite to a flattened region on the other side of the coin. If you think about it, someone struck Washington's head with a hammer or something, but the eagle's feet got smushed when the coin pressed against the hard surface underneath.
