*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark / Denomination to Title. Titles are Important! *** Ok I think I got a good one this time. Mining $20.00 worth of quarters and I see this. Thanks to this web site and others I am learning what to look for. If you look above the date on the right then look above the date on the left CAN YOU SEE IT !!

You are looking at a line the coin wrapper etched on the coin from wrapping the tube to close it. This is PSD. Sorry

Unfortunately, it's just damage from a coin wrapper

Actually the device are lower than the field. They are incuse in the circle around the coin. Because they are incuse (sunk into the coin) the slightest MD will also alter them as these devices are raised on the die. (making them look doubled about 70% of the time)

I think TJLang has something here. I remember seeing one similar here on CCF, but that's all I remember. John1

It is as the circle of the boarder comes around the die cracked there from the pressure. Then pressed Above the date a bit farther. You can see the circle of the boarder plain as day. I will try a better picture tomorrow maybe.
You are looking at the coin on the left correct? How would a coin wrapper leave a ring on the inside?

Just like this cent was scratched: http://goccf.com/t/307192The coin wrapper tightens the roll while crimping the end tube closed. Next time you open a OBW roll of coins, Notice the coins on the ends of the rolls. They will be damaged, just like your coin is. We see this so often and always get the "you don't know what your talking about" then they look and see what we are talking about.

Maybe you should start a damaged page? I always now keep questionable coins in a tube. It saves the expense of putting a coin in a holder that is going to cost me more than it is worth. (when I first started collecting I put all the cents I found interesting in a 2X2s. Later on when I figured out that I was spending 5 cents to save a coin that was worth 2 cent away in books) I have 2 or three of these I spent a lot of money on. I keep them as a reminder of how stupid I was in doing that. So I try to keep others from wasting there money on stuff that later on you figure out later to be common. So if you want to save stuff, use tubes and not 2X2's)

I have a damage page already. and I use 2x2 to stop the coins from falling out. I just don't staple them or write on them. I looked at this coin again and noticed the date is not rubbed away. But does run over this step so it was stamped on it and the damage was there first. Look Close at my first picture. Not to beat a dead horse.
