I see a cross in quadrilobe, crossed keys, and PAVLVS. I suspect this is from the Comtat Venaissin.

I'm also seeing an "AV" after the PAVLVS...so the likely legend, in its entirety, is S PETRVS ET PAVLVS AVEN

So probably a billon patard of the Comtat Venaissin. Spence may be able to add more.

Interesting coin. Please give me a little time to see if I can attribute it.

Thanks for your comments, Bob L and Spence. Following up on your ideas, Bob L, and doing a Google search looking at images of Comtat Venaissin coins, it looks a lot like

This photo is a billon patard from Avignon of Urban VIII (1623-1644). The legend matches S PETRVS ET PAVLVS AVEN. The shape of the handles on the keys matches this better than the similar coins from some of the other popes. So I think we have a match. Thank you very much!

With Peter, Paul and keys, you can bet there is a papal connection!

Mass attributed to the coin in your link is quite a bit lower than yours?

(Edit: never mind ... I see there is quite a bit of variation on the mass of this type .. from under 0.6 to about 1.0 g. Interesting if the experts can figure out which pope from the legend on the side with the keys. It does indeed look like there is a V between the keys which would be the beginning of Pope Urban's name ...)

As usual, Bob nailed it: Comtat Venaissin.

In terms of figuring out which Pope Urban, the obv legend should be VRBANVS VIII PONT MAX for Urban the 8th. I can't tell from your pics what the inscription says, but perhaps in hand you can see it more clearly? With that said, I'm only seeing coins from this neck of the French woods attributed to Urban V, VI, and VIII (you may recall that Urban VII died of malaria after less than two weeks of being Pope). Only Urban VIII issued Patards.

Assuming that this coin was struck under the authority of Pope Urban VIII, then I have found an attribution for you. Your Patard is listed as Duplessy #1980. There are two varieties, one with a crescent moon between the crossed keys (such as in the link that you already found) and one with a five-armed star. I can't tell for sure from your pics, but it kinda looks like the star.

Thank you, tdziemia and Spence, for pointing out features I had not noticed. Examination under the low-power microscope confirms that there is a V and also a very worn 5-pointed star (or perhaps a 5-petalled flower). So I think we have a very good attribution now.
