Need Help Grading/Valuating 1923 Australia One Penny

I have inherited several dozen old, foreign coins from many countries dated from the 1600s on up. We can speak of them in a later discussion if you wish. Right now I am curious about my 1923 Australia one penny. My search of the internet has me totally baffled as to it's condition and value. Can any of you knowledgeable folks help me out? Coinfrog Bedrock of the Community United States 94367 Posts	Posted 02/10/2018 3:05 pm Really tough to grade. I see at least EF sharpness but the color, while pretty good, seems inconsistent with the wear unless this was a soft strike. Rims are a problem for sure. Report this Post to the Staff

fplagge Pillar of the Community United States 668 Posts	Posted 02/11/2018 10:04 am Hi all, Fred again. As previously stated, I am new to all this coin-speak, so forgive my ignorance. It was said that my coin had been chemically cleaned. How can you tell? I do see where there are light and dark areas on the coin's reverse, caused by what I cannot say but, if it was due to cleaning, wouldn't the raised areas show up light as well as the lower ones? Also, If someone has cleaned the coin, wouldn't they do a more thorough job than this coin shows? Please educate me. - Thanks Report this Post to the Staff
Kopper Ken Pillar of the Community United States 3402 Posts	Posted 02/11/2018 1:51 pm Your coin is unnaturally bright when is has so much wear. Coins worn down to the level of your coin will not exhibit that unevenness of "shine", and probably wouldn't have any luster at all, just a nice overall browning. Google up some Aussie pennies and you'll see. Or go on the Bay. It could have been polished years ago, decades ago and is now re-toning. KK Report this Post to the Staff
