Hi all forum members,

I am brand new at coin collecting and am expecting to buy a few duds... until I found this forum and found you! (Maybe I can learn much faster now.)

I recently purchased an AU penny set for $450 AUD and I didn't get exact coins as described in the ad... No 8 pearls in the KGV section. Many KGVI had weaker strike. UNC in Elizabeth range.

Seller is from ebay and has 100% rating in business for over 40 years - seems like a nice person.

Q: Just needed a second opinion on if I pay too much? The album looks great - I don't want to 'doubt the professionals' as seller said 8 Pearls are there for the later dates but I really didn't see any 8 pearls...
Should I ask for a refund and send it back? Or even mention it? I don't want to accuse anyone or expect too much since I am the newbie.

Thanks for your help!!

Yeah,eBay is a Minefield for even experienced Collectors.

For $400 odd you need top quality 1925 & 1946 and a sprinkling of Unc. amongst the other Coins.
Except for the key dates Pennies and Halves values drop off a cliff if their are signs of wear, you need Unc or Aunc or close to it for them to be worth much more than a $ or two.
Best to buy Coins for a set individually, more fun and you know what you are getting to a certain degree.

I would yes overpay by about 100 dollars, however that not to say it was an unfair price. Would need some better picture of key date to say yes or no. I mean if you felt he was reputable and they where authentic then extra 100 not that much.

You could always contact the seller, explain the fact that there are not any 8 pearls. And ask for a 50.00 refund. He may tell you no but no harm in asking.

Thanks everyone for your help. I will ask the seller if he can honour any 8 pearls clause because it's great to get genuine set of coins and I might become more of a repeat customer some day.
