After all of the excitement of the UFO coin, the Captain Canuck coin, and the Carousel coin, the June releases seem very tame. Looks like my wallet will be safe.
Seem to be a lot recycled themes. The Niagara Falls Fireworks coin resembles last year's Canada Day Parliament coin. The canopy coin looks like past canopy coins. And another maple leaf shaped coin? How many of them have we seen? 3 or 4?

The maple leaf outline in the branches is new, but the coin itself looks too much like the other green canopy coin. |

Info on the June release has been published here: https://www.bullionmart.ca/product-...ilver-coins/Regarding the "recycled" aspect of some of the coins, I think its just a matter of the RCM looking to amortize its investment in new minting technologies and to spread the development cost over multiple coins. "First time" technology costs money and adding all of the costs of a never-to-be-used-again technology to a single coin would likely make it too expensive for most collectors. Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. All rights reserved.

The 10 ounce Unicorn, Keepers of Parliament coin is the first in a series of 4 is quite remarkable.

The 10 Oz Unicorn is a good looking coin. If the other 3 (Beaver, Soldier, Lion) are similar then this would be on the list... except for the pricing. Like the Angel of Victory, these are priced at $999 ($949 if you purchase the 4 coin subscription) but the pricing is still in the 4.5x-5x bullion and a significant barrier to entry.  Unfortunately, I will be waiting for 2-3 yrs to pickup in the secondary market after prices have normalized. |

After the "Keepers of Parliament" Unicorn, the rest of the release is somewhat ho-hum.
Retread issues: Maple Canopy, Fireworks, Predator Cougar from last yr's SML, Maple shaped coin have all been done before. The Kilo convex is interesting but nothing more than that. I also feel that distorting the size of the maritime reissues to 2oz, 1oz, .5oz and .25oz and then adding an antique finish is less of a tribute and more of a cash grab. I liked the 1998 90th Anniversary Sets but they were true to size. Same issue I had with the Legacy of the Penny and Legacy of the Dime sets...
I might though pick up a panda to join the $20 for $20 set.

Antique finish is nice BUT way too many artificial tiny markings to give it that circulation look...

I think the RCM missed the mark on the "Before Confederation: Colonial Currency" set. Why use silver to replicate three coins originally struck in copper? Why disregard their original sizes and use over-sized dimensions? The original Nova Scotia, PEI and New Brunswick pieces were all essentially the same size; in the set they are three different sizes and all much bigger than the originals. Why have QEII on the obverse vs. Queen Victoria as on the originals? The Nova Scotia coin, for example, was a copper coin approximately 25 mm in diameter. For this set, it is a silver coin with a 50 mm diameter and a weight that is roughly 11x the original (62.69 g vs. 5.67 g). The overall concept for this set has merit, but, IMO, the execution missed the mark by a wide margin. While not full-on gimmick coins, their historical inaccuracies place them squarely in the novelty category (at least for me). Just my opinion, of course, others may find them wonderful examples of modern NCLT. We all need to collect what we enjoy! Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. There was no French spelling on the Provincial coin reverses,
and I agree - the original Queen Victoria design should have been used.
Many replica coins are issued with old effigies, why not this one.
On the PEI Cent they crammed the 1 Cent below the Tree. All coins have
Canada on the obverse, NewFoundland is not noted on any coins.
The different sizes than original, the series seems to be an opportunity
missed.
