Hi All, I just received the current issue of Coin World and read about the New Dollar coin that was signed into law at the end of December. I'm now going into the dead presidents issue again since we all have pretty much discussed our viewpoints on that issue before. However the idea of dropping the word "Liberty" from the coin and placing both mottos along with the date on the edge. I know some of you like the idea of edge writing but to put the date, and probably the mintmak, on the edge is not collector friendly. Can you imagine placing these coins in an album and then trying to see when each was minted..? The coins will look all the same. Taking the word Liberty off the coin because "The coin will feature the Statue of Liberty" is ludicrous to say the least. This has a roar of political correctness. How many coins have we issued that featured the Statue of Liberty and not even a whisper of removing the word Libery from the coin. Is our government trying to tell us something..? Right now I'm glad I stopped collecting modern U.S. coins. I really don't have to worry about getting a set of these. The additions of pre-1964 coins in my collection is going up and I'm real happy. catman

I've been very open about my feelings on this series. I think the Presidential dollars are a horrible idea and I can't even comment on the first lady gold due to the fact that this is a family-friendly forum.

Susan it doesn't bother me one bit to say how darned stupid it is to put the first "I didn't get elected" ladies on GOLD. Most of these ladies are as memorable as a hot dog vendor at your favorite sporting arena and, even if I had money to burn, I be d----- if I will help Congress and the Mint justify their stupidity and self serving ideas. The whole programs absolutely reeks and we are going to get the dead politicians shoved right up our ____ if we want to keep buying mint sets and proof sets. Can't wait to see the mark up on those next year? I would venture to guess $5 to $10 for each set! Thank God for the Darkside!!!

I do like the Presidential Series.
I don't like the First Lady Series.
I don't like where the date and mint mark will be placed.
I do agree that the whole idea is strictly a money maker for the Governemnt.
I am excited about the Presidential coins, and plan to collect them, and help circulate them.

Although I do not plan on collecting the whole series, there are many past Presidents and first Ladies that I admire and will most likely collect them. I also think that the series will attract new collectors, just as the State Quarters program has and to me that is a good thing. As far as profit goes, the potential is enormous, and in essence it is just another form of taxation as the profits are turned over to the Fed's. Mike

I won't be collecting them. The only president I ever liked was William Henry Harrison.

Don't worry too much catman. This series is already doomed. Give it 16 to 18 coins, and we will only have to see them offered on TV. What really stinks the most, is that Sacagawea is now a permanent design. Not only will it co-circulate, which will flood the market, and cause the banks to stop ordering dollar coins, but once this sad failure is finally dead (once again) congress will have to change the design, and the Treasury has NO say in the matter.

The part that really peeves me off is the fact AMERICANS have no say in this matter!!!
