Hello. I acquired a foreign collection over the weekend, and this one really stood out to me. It is a 1895 10 (of whatever denomination) It has a two headed eagle on the back, nearly identical to a 1860 Pfennig that I had also picked up.(Two-headed eagle with crowns, holding a sword in one claw and appears to be a cross or a 3 leaf clover or something in the other(I could only tell that by looking at the Pfennig, it looks too rounded to be a cross)) That is about all I can tell. It has no words on it... just 1895 and 10 Here are the pics... Image: 1895 1.jpg102.19 KB Image: 1895 2.jpg87.92 KB Now do you see why it appeared so weird? The color on the eagle side... It almost appears to be wearing through and you can see the silver spots when you look close. Can anyone tell me anything almost this... hopefully value included. Thanks! Jordan

The eagle side would indicate that it is German but the other side would not. German coin generally show the demonination eg: pfennig or mark.
Got me beat.

Austria 10 heller [100 heller=1 corona (crown)] KM#2802 mintage just under 80 million made of pure nickel
according to my 1996 SCWC, F=$0.25, VF=$0.50, XF=$1.00, although I believe these to be a little optimistic, as this coin is readily available in dealers junk boxes, often for 10c or 7/$1.

It is a Russian 10 Roubles (KM#64) - composition .900 gold - weight 8.6026g - .2489 oz average gold weight. Values given in Krause 2nd edition $120.00 (XF) and $170.00 (UNC).
Given the history behind Nickolas II, I find this coin to have a lot of collector and intrinsic value. Have you ever read the history behind his reign and his murder. He was the last Czar of Russia and was murdered in 1917 along with his entire family.

Susan I guess you explained the coin in my link. I just used it to compare with the one jdheyne asked about.
To be honest I haven't heard about Nikolai the Second, but if he's murdered in 1917, the reason for his murder is probably the Bolschevic Revolution of Lenin and his "comrades".
I have a similar coin, but Silver with a date of 1899, one of my favourites:)

Susanlynn, Do you have any info I can view on this coin online? I find it really hard to believe it is gold... no offense. There is really no goldish tint to the coin. The side that is not in silver color is like a pinkish orange and appears to be wearing off. Thanks for the help! Jordan

Edit: So you are not saying this coin is gold, correct? After reading reply before this one, you were explaining the coin in the link?

I guess I lead to a mixup. Susan referred to the coin showed in the link I gave. Yours is probably not gold, but Russian. ;)

I see... Any ideas on the two different colors?

My idea is that it is some kind of Copper alloy as base metal and silver or tin coating. The coating of reverse is worn off.

So it would probably be how it was minted and not modified by someone else, correct?

The coin is nickel so the redness is post-mint, most likely either being plated or painted by someone.

I think so.(not modified)
But that's my opinion at first sight. We have real experts here, I say wait for their comment.

Sorry about the confusion. I explained the coin in the link since the answer had already been given on the original coin.
