I used these types of albums when I was a kid. No more! Even then, I never pushed the coins in the holes with my bare fingers. I always used a soft cloth.

Yes, they were a staple of my early collecting.

Yup. I used the Whitman folders exclusively from around 1980 to 1984 when I started moving coin to Dansco albums (the move was complete by 1986).
