@vonigohcr

Same here. Except that my kids 14-17 now use PayPal... they don't carry cash for purchases (only for emergencies). Both have debit cards now.

Honestly I can't see cash coming back anytime soon.

Cash is King.

There are many who still use cash to pay tradesmen, plumbers, air and heating, roofing, lawn maintenance, I could go on and on, who will give you a deal rather than having to pay the HST.
Casinos want cash only in their machines.
Go to resorts worldwide and you need cash even if they are all inclusive. I am not cheap. I still tip in cash even if it is all inclusive.
Drugs are bought with cash only transactions (on the street). Not that I do any drugs. LOL
Gift giving of money in cards: birthdays, weddings, graduations, first communion, confirmations etc...
Flea markets.
I still say: Cash is King and it is still very very much in style and not going anywhere right now.

If we do become a cashless society, which I doubt, every government agency will be able to track everything that you do. What is next?

We really need a new discussion thread for this topic, this quote caught my eye from the 'Guardian'.

Quote:
A cashless society brings dangers. People without bank accounts will find themselves further marginalized, disenfranchised from the cash infrastructure that previously supported them. There are also poorly understood psychological implications about cash encouraging self-control while paying by card or a mobile phone can encourage spending. And a cashless society has major surveillance implications.

Not really.

Cash may be King but certainly not at the retail level. When I shop, I see the vast majority of transactions are either credit or debit. The only exception is ethnic stores where they only accept cash.

Also, I find the elderly (70+) more likely to use cash. Probably when they grew in the 1930's and 1940's cash was the only option and they are more used to cash.

Cash is King in underground economy like the trades and services where home renovations and maintenance is done.

Most importantly, why pay cash when you get cashbacks and points when using credit cards. They could add up to thousands of dollars each year as some rewards are high as 2%, 3%, or 4%. It is pretty stupid to use cash when you can get something back.

This is what my wife says.

But I usually reply, that we are not so rich, to earn our money additional tricky way, but honest workers, that don't need some dollars thrown to us by some credit companies.

What dose wealth have to do with spending wisely, if some credit cards offer some form of cash back, nothing wrong with using their offer the retailer is not going to sell most items cheaper for cash. It's just progress now that Apple and Ali pay and many other versions are appearing cards are just easy to use. Cash will always be around when you gift or pay someone with cash it still has a cool feeling, also had friends who sold their own car and for obvious reasons accepted only cash, 20,000 or more still is impressive compared to a bank draft.

Many cashless societies are popping up (or claiming to be cashless).

In Norway, fewer than 10% of people use cash. Sweden is also virtually cashless. Even beggars have card terminals due to the lack of currency in circulation. Finland is technically cashless. In some Scandinavian countries there are businesses that have "no cash" signs.

Good or bad, this is a worldwide trend.

But honestly, this topic probably deserves its own thread.

The "hottest gimmick" of the month seems to be "The Smockin' Loonie".

Not official RCM release, but created using the RCM's SML and as a base taken popular Loonie design of our Dollar coin.

Limited production.
This is will be fist in the series!

To get the coin and to read more about it, please navigate to the TCS website:

SilverDon ok here is the best way to check these. this ruler will measure right down to the pixel. what the mint changed is the outer ring inside diameter. I wonder if this might change the coins weight. you know what might just cut one of these sets up to compare. I will show with 2 images. that shows the different sizes of the inner ring. the letters around the outer right are a little bite larger than before the die break. please keep in mind. I was hand holding the camera. to photograph ruler, my hands are not as steady as they use to be.
