I picked up this NGC graded cent the other day for my 7070.
The scratches are on the holder and as most know it's tough photographing through plastic:

For the record, I'm not that crazy about NGC's grading, as I've found it to be pretty inconsistent.

I see an MS64 coin here. The two small hits on the cheek and the one in the field under the chin and the small dimple above the CE on the reverse would prevent this from a 65 in my opinion. I could see NGC putting this in a 65 holder, though.

It's really a gorgeous coin and the coloring is fantastic!
Rest in Peace

I would go 64 RB as well, a 65 coin minus some minor marks.

63+. It can't go RED, RB, or Brown because it's CN.

Really?

I meant just judging by the general shine.

Very nice coin! You're building up an impressive collection, Ken!

I see this as a conservative MS-62 and very possible as an MS-63. The weak detail of UNI in UNITED plus the various small ticks keep it from MS-64 IMO. Except for UNI, the strike seems quite solid, the color is nice, and there is a lot of luster. You can pretty much rule out any kind of cleaning or abuse since it did make into NGC plastic.

Will you be cracking it out for the 7070?

PS: 1000 posts!

The hits on the cheek rule out anything above a 63 , this coin is RB by most standards today .

Im betting that NGC gave this coin a 64 RB unless the coin has darkened since slabbing ,which I have seen happen . and the color designation is incorrect based on that occuring .

Its a pretty coin and a great example for the date !

I have heard NGC has really tightened their grading since CAC has come along. This is a recent submittal and came back as MS 62. I had hoped MS 63. I agree it probably would have been a 63 around the first of the year...wish it was, but either way it's still a nice coin, that I can live with.

I thought about it but since I am paying money to have coins submitted to PCGS/NGC/NCS, I think I'll keep it slabbed or maybe try a PCGS crossover.
