I don't think that's a die crack on obverse that your talking about . You have obverse rim issues on obverse at 5 and 6:00 . The lower left side leaves on reverse I think is either grease or weakly struck . And of cause the face hit . otherwise really nice coin , MS-64 original .

Interesting observations, thanks. I did note the rim issue, and believe it occurred during strike. There are others like it straight-graded on Heritage. You may note that the rim is much thicker on one side than the other on the reverse, and thicker where the damage is on the obverse. I'll wait on my other thoughts.

MS63 I don't think the ding would details it. the rims appear to be during striking and not PMD. the leaf looks like a strike through grease as its pretty much localized

I'll post a couple more for fun. Tried to get a different light on it but earlier images better represent what it looks like. I tried to capture hair detail without the glare. Seller sold this as "AU condition, although it was lightly cleaned in the past". I paid about XF40-45 price. I don't see any wear in hand. I don't see evidence of cleaning either, although there are a couple minute scratches here and there. I figure the seller thought it was dipped and wiped. I did too at first, but looking at Heritage there are many MS62-66 examples that appear to have the same odd, dull toning. I wonder what was going on in New Orleans. Die cracks, die clashes, rim damage, odd toning (did they wash planchets with something weird?), odd striations that look like the dies were polished with a belt sander, sporadic areas of weak strike or Grease Fill. Here's an MS63 very close to mine in terms of these things. https://coins.ha.com/itm/barber-dim...bnail-071515. I purchased it because it is a previously undocumented Obverse Type 1 on a 1901 coin. Obverse 2 was thought to be exclusive from 1901 on.
