As you all know the first "two" people to find and submit the quarters were Steven R. from Topeka, Kansas, and Michael T. of Fairfax, Virginia. https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...ulation.htmlWell apparently there is a 3rd person who found one and submitted what is being called the first one submitted. https://www.numismaticnews.net/arti...omment-44636"The coin is now graded NGC MS 67 and encapsulated with a label noting its significance: "First Certified"". Not only that but it is also the highest graded of them at MS67 while the others are MS66 and MS65. I wonder how much of the high grade was due to the fact it was found by a "actor". So either this actor Shawn Pyfrom is either Steven R. from Topeka, Kansas, and Michael T. of Fairfax, Virginia or there are not two first submitted coins like we were lead to believe. If this coin was truly the first certified how come the prize was not given to him alone instead of being split between two people. This whole thing now seems fishy and stinks. The prize money and the find was from PCGS, they couldn't care less about NGC submissions. I'm not a conspiracy theory person but in this instance it does seem like NGC probably got to the actors submission faster than others knowing the publicity it would bring.

Possible but we'll never know. PCGS was doing only PCGS Subs for prize money. NGC was doing NGC first sub for prize. 2 independent things. Also seeing the delay between them I'd bet PCGS had it first.

Nothing fishy there at all. NGC disn't have a prize and I'm not entirely sure that coin was fist submitted or found besides by NGCs determination. If I remember correctly I know PCGS submission were in already days before NGC announced their find, and we'll before PCGS graded and announced the two fines submitted there. If you want to think about something fishy. Utah had first finds days before the release date for the 3rd design on June 3rd.finds were popping up on social media from June 1st of war in the Pacific Ws. My fishy radar goes off on things like that. Did someone at the mint pocket some to get the bounty and the first find slab to sell? Did someone from the armored carrier pull some out and give to family to claim the bounty and the couple thousand the first find slabs would bring, as well as the $100+ a piece ebay sales for early coins? I could understand if it was on or after the release date bet they were a couple days early even and all popping up in Utah. It is what it is at the end of the day but that's what I find "fishy". Was nothing fishy about the first coin release. Nothing really fishy about the 2nd coin release either. Someone in Utah decided to jump the gun here and I honestly have to question their motivations for doing it. Who am I kidding, it was done for money of course, that was the motivation. Even if the bounty wasn't there, the $100+ a coin from ebay for the first couple days being the only couple sellers is a huge deal alone.

Just to add a little to Big K's post...I just returned from vacation on Lake Powell (Utah/Arizona border) and the dam gift shop, several gas stations,Subway Subs and McDs were giving out in change from rolls of 2019 25c....none would release rolls...at least I got a few nice examples of MS66 and above..Only two banks in the city of Page Az. and tellers very unfriendly to vacationers, would not even check their drawers for "newer" rolls
Edited: Also in St.George, Utah...bank tellers were aware of the W mint marked quarters, and told me they have not seen any "newer" rolls.

Unable to sleep and scrolling the channels I stopped on HSN only to see NGC MS67's at $159.99. Unreal... it's still only a quarter after the fad dies.

Hype or no hype the 67's for the W quarters will almost certainly have a substantial premium as it is unlikely there are a ton of 67's out there to really crash the value.

PCGS said at the time that both submissions were received in their office on the same day and that they consulted with the submitters to split the prize.

Depends, he may still care a little, in which case he could care less.

He cares for nothing. I kid, Just Carl. I kid. You know I love ya. And he has a point. No assigned space in the albums and only a few extra spaces at the end (if you have Dansco). If I find any they will go into 2x2s. That is a big if. I also doubt I would be buying them any time soon.

There is no space for them in the current albums (how could there be, the albums were prduced before they came up with this idea.) But eventually I think there will be albums that have spaces for both the S mint business strikes and the W mint coins.
