Any of your Lowell's have this? That donut shaped spot is perfectly positioned so that Washington appears to be wearing an earring. I found several like this in March over the course of about two weeks. The other marks also appear on the other examples of the 'earring' quarter but in varied locations. Something must have poked through the center of the die thereby piercing Washington's ear and leaving debris to create a series of small indentations that on some of them kind of looks like he may have been bitten by a vampire. The mint didn't have much to say and I have yet to find anyone else that has one.

A full image of both sides might show us more. It could be an addition to the coin?

We need better pictures. Those vampire bite marks are reeded edge contact marks...

I withdrew my previous comment. Nice find! You have a Die Chip on the ear.

I'm having trouble getting decent shots of these things but here's this.. they all have the donut and they all have the other little marks somewhere within the lower half of the coin generally on or to the left of Washington's neck. Most of them have two of the 'bite' marks as shown clearly in my previous photo. I pointed arrows at what is noticable in the photo, they do all have another mark a bit further south as well. Those other marks are identical across multiple coins, often appearing more than once per coin, but never in the exact same location. I have not found these marks on coins without the donut, nor have I found the donut on coins without the other marks. So unless the donut coins were sorted out and specially handled by someone or something that caused those marks, for some mysterious purpose sometime between being struck and their brief moments spent in the wild (from the roll to the cash drawer at bar, then to customers as change and straight into my girlfriend's tip jar).. I would lean towards the 'but' marks being created at the same time and place that the donut was created. But maybe it just happens to be entirely coincidental. When I reached out to the mint and a couple of experts/dealers I remember mentioning how consistently the donut and bite marks appear together or not at all and that I'd like to find the coin that only has the donut or only has the bite marks because if there was such a coin it could represent the moment it began. Obviously the mint's response was that they do not certify or appraise coins, the few experts I reached out to never emailed me back. But IF there are donut coins without the other marks, more specifically MORE than those with the additional marks, and IF the other marks DID happen as part of the same mishap, considering that the other marks wander around appearing in different locations on each coin; whatever debris might have been floating around causing these marks could have eventually migrated right out of the equation leaving any subsequent coins to be struck with Washington's stylish donut earring but without the 'bite' marks.

So who has a donut, raise your hand.. now anyone whose donut is not accompanied by the bite marks, put your hands down.

As stated above by USSID18, the bite marks are hits from the reeded edge of other quarters.
