1971-D Jefferson Nickel.. Low Mintmark?

I just found the nickel on the left (not in the folder). compared to my other one in the folder, it looks like the mintmark is much lower. Am I seeing things? is this a variety of any sort? or just a different die used. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you! Report this Post to the Staff

The mintmark was applied to the dies by hand at this time and so it's position varied a little bit. Most likely no premium unless the mintmark is so far out of the ideal location that it is touching another design element. hole_in_pocket Valued Member United States 194 Posts	Posted 08/12/2019 8:36 pm I've seen a post somewhere that there is a variance in mint marks. I believe this fits within an acceptable range for the mint mark. I do think its a bit lower. Report this Post to the Staff
