Hi All, I'm new here, appreciate any expertise you can offer, always eager to learn. Recently I acquired what I think is a, 1918/7-D Buffalo. It came marked as such in an auction for a larger set. What do your expert eyes think?   Edited by jadenusa

To CCF , I hope you didn't bid on that lot solely for the so called 1918/7D Nickel. ''My eyes think'' I can't see a darn thing that remotely resembles 18 over 7 . 1918-D perhaps !  |

Agreed the condition is so poor, it really is hard to nail it down. Each picture I take looks a little different. From the diagnostics I've read, it seems to check the boxes?
- off-set loops on the 8
- D slight lean to the left, closer to the E than C
- top of 8/7 slightly above the 1

@John1, while I didn't exclusively buy the set for the promise of the 1918/7, it definitely had me intrigued. :-) Thanks for all the opinions so far.

Awesome, thanks everyone! Not sure what it is about Buffalo's, but they've captured my collectors bug HARD. Now if I could be as lucky on a 3 leg find... not likely.

During my Buffalo "career" I've pulled 3 18/17-D's, 2 37-D 3-leggers, several 36-D 3 1/2 leggers and about 30 1935-P DDR's. (All from bulk lots purchased at shops or at shows!). Stuff can still be found! It's amazing what gets over-looked! |

IMHO these nickels are THE best designed of all American coins. Given "the bug," my advice in assembling sets is to seek full dates and avoid the acid treated nickels. I'd get the overdate certified and not put it in an album. |
