1989 Penny- Is It A Wide Am DDO On A 1988 Obverse?

All 1988-89 CENTS are WAM and it is the reverse, not the obverse that determines the variety

photo of the Reverse to determine if it is 1989 on 1988.

The RDV-005 and 006 are both Wide AM's normally. What you are looking for different is the different dies used. On the 1989 the normal is a RDV-006. The differences between the 005 and 006 are these items to look for:

On the RDV-005 the devices on AMERICA were rounded:

The RDV-006 has wider/flat shaped devices on AMERICA.
The normal one for 1988 is RDV-005. Some REV-006 were found being used that year. There are no RDV-005 on the 1989 cents. When you know the differences on the 'G', some of the worn dies on the 1989 cents look like RDV-005. Except for one thing The upper loop of the 'G' extends further to the right:

The upper loop on the 'G' is shorter and the initials are in different locations on all of the RDV005-7s.

Close AM wasn't seen until 1992 that was an advance start like on the 006 in 1988. The Normal ones for each are 1988 RD5s. 1989 RDV-006 and 1993 RDV-007 (all 1993 cents were Close AM, business strikes and proof coins) In 1994 the proof cents were changed back to the RDV-006 reverses, RDV-007 on business strikes. That was the normal reverses till 2008. Even though there was a mix up on the 1998-1999 proof reverses and 1998-2000 business strikes.
