I have never found a die cap before. I found it in a 8000 hoard of wheat pennies. At first I had thought someone had found a way to damage the coin. I didn't find any marks on the edge of the coin and I set it aside.

Does anyone know how to get a picture of the full date? I tried to hold it under my scope and the best I could determine is the last number is vertical which would make it a 5.

This isn't a die cap at all. Its damage. Looks like it was spooned. Could also be a Dryer Coin. But whatever happened to it, its damage. PSD

Thank you. I will look that up. The coin seemed off in that it was circular.

You have a damage coin that went for a long spin in a dryer.
