This 1958-D LWC has strong purple toning, but on the reverse there is a thin line that avoided this kind of toning. Is this an intrinsic metallic inclusion or just a toning anomaly?

It may be a part of the planchet that had concentration of tin or zinc that caused the uneven toning.

This happens fairly often on early wheat cents, they're commonly called "woodys"
