I would grade this VF20--nice coin!
This is also the only known repunched date for 1876, the Snow-1 1/1 (n)
There were 67 obverse dies for that year, and here the date position matches exactly to this variety.
I can also just see the RPD markers off the 1 digit. Despite being rather subtle, Snow lists a good premium on this one--"2X-3X normal value".

The coloration suggested something to me, but I won't judge the coin by photos alone.

Exactly. Photos alone are not enough but are better than nothing.

If you do, I'd make sure they can tell the Snow # (I'm pretty sure of this one).
If you ever want to sell, having the variety on the slab cannot hurt.

I'd go VF30 cleaned. Try a TPG that will slab problem coins.

I'd also say VF-20.

I usually send my variety coins to ANACS. But I understand the new TPG, DGS offers a pretty good service too although I have never submitted to them. KurtS, what's your opinion.

By the way, if it turns out to be cleaned after all, I know ANACS will still slab it as a details grade.

--I haven't submitted an IHC variety to a TPG, so I haven't researched this yet.
I might submit one to NGC, and I'll write something when it returns.
