We'll kind of a weird one here. This one basically cost nothing on ebay but I bought it because it looked odd. I can't quite figure out what is going on with it. It's a tombac but it actually looks more like copper in the light. Kind of a yellowish copper colour. It appears to have a fair bit of lustre still and very little wear. Something has happened to it though. Unfortunately the pictures don't really do a good job of showing it. The last couple are with my iPhone and a loupe. Anyone have any idea what I'm looking at?

Lev

to CCF. It is always best to remove coins from 2x2 holders before taking photos. It looks like a naturally toned nickel to me,but I am no pro.

The color is just due to the effect that the environment has had on it.
Actually, I rather like the color.

Years ago, I completed a type set of Canadian 'Nickels'.
The Tombac Beaver in uncirculated was the most elusive type to find.

I have tombac nickels that range from a very light, almost golden colour to a deeper bronze colour...

perhaps you consider taking other pictures without the plastic of the 2x2.
I have TBk's from copper color to rainbow color to gold-gold color to simple brown color.

Yeah I can take it out of the 2x2 and take some better pictures. I was just being lazy. Lol.

Okay finally took some pictures without the 2x2. I'm fairly sure this coin has no real value, I just thought it was interesting. :)

It is worth around $3 in AU condition and IMHO has nice eye appeal.

I agree with everyone here. Looks like it's just natural toning, pretty decent strike and good eye appeal, nice coin.

If you wanted to upgrade your 1942 nickel to an ICCS MS66, there is one in tonight's auction at TCNC....currently at $1100....of course I can't upload a photo for you.
