HI Everyone,

You versus PCGS on this 1881-S OGH, the coin is extremely bright and very difficult to photograph!

The photos make it difficult to assign PL. My guess is MS66.

this one is difficult for me to assess due to the lighting. I need to assume some things. the 81(S) should be sharp and bold. I cant get a good read on the breast but I can see some feather detail so I'm assuming its sharp or close. the surfaces have some PL qualities which makes taking decent photo a bit of a challenge. there appears to some minor and marks on the obverse fields. the cheeks are difficult to assess. luster could be broken and there appears to be some ticks across the area that the photo is hiding. the reverse looks pretty clean for marks except something going on under STATES and few hairlines in the fields. eye appeal looks good. I'm going with a solid MS65 with a good shot at 66 without better photos. can't call PL designation as there is nothing to compare it to. it does appear to have reflective surfaces though. PCGS is tough on these lately

MS65 based on my gut, photos aren't as good as they could be - better lighting techniques might help that, otherwise it looks mark free and MS-65 through MS66+ won't surprise me.

I played with the photos a bit to reduce lighting, increase color, and sharpen contrast. The obverse has a few minor contact marks on the cheek and eyebrow and two deeper contact marks west of the nose and above the cap. There is also very minor scuffing on the cheek. The reverse has one significant rim ding at 5:00, but otherwise is very nice.

I'm at MS-64 for the obverse, MS-66 for the reverse, net grade MS-65. The pics suggest that it could PL, but I cannot tell from the photos.

Nice coin!

I thought I'd add some additional photos before I reveal it, tried to capture just how "gem-y" this coin is.
