Here are a few more vignettes from the Michael Bean note cards I referenced in my Bald Eagle Vignettes post. This time out, Locomotives.

The nearest I can get to the 'American' (4-4-0 wheel arrangement), is an HO scale all brass model. I have had it in a display cabinet for nearly 50 years.

I just love those old 'V' cowcatcher, diamond smokestack, timber cab wood burners! The epitome of a classic antique locomotive, which was the backbone of early American steam locomotive history.

Oh, now you've done it! Steam trains are a favorite subject of mine. I prefer them on stocks and bonds, but I have numerous vignette proofs, too.

I think it's safe to say that you're not alone in that camp - plenty of collectors are there with you!

Let's give this topic a bump with a few more vignettes from my collection. Actually, if anyone can identify uses for these on currency or stock/bonds please let me know!

So I found #2, looks like Chicago Canadian railway. 3 and 4 I believe are actually photos oroginally taken when the Canadian rail system was completed and couldn't find them on anything else besides the original pics.

For some reason, this is the only Canadian currency vignette showing a train.
1912 Dominion of Canada $5.00 Issue.

@Bubbachismo, you are SO close on those match-ups but they are not quite the same. I actually hunted down high-res images of those stocks to compare them.

If you look closely you'll see there are a lot of details that don't match -- they are definitely different engravings. But, I would bet money that the engravers were working from the same model, probably a photograph. I think those are certainly the same locomotives!

But I think you nailed it on the photo. There is so much detail that matches with the engraving -- that has to be the working model that the engraver used. Well done!
