To help mark the 50th anniversary of the company's founding, the Ford Motor Company commissioned a 1953 commemorative medal in its honor. The bronze historical art medal was designed by Anthony de Francisci (of Peace dollar fame) and struck by the Medallic Art Company of New York. It was produced as a high-relief historical art medal with a diameter of three-inches and a lower-relief piece with a diameter of 32 millimeters (mm). The obverse of the medal features the triple-conjoined portraits of Henry Ford (rear portrait), the company founder, Edsel Ford (middle portrait), Henry's son, who served as company CEO/Chairman from 1919-1943 and Henry Ford II (front portrait), Henry's grandson, the man who ultimately served as company CEO/Chairman from 1945 to 1979; well beyond the 1953 anniversary. The design is based on a painting Norman Rockwell did specifically for Ford. The medal's reverse is comprised of commemorative/anniversary inscriptions that highlight the company's 50th anniversary and celebrate its past. 1953 Ford Motor Company 50th Anniversary Medal 1953 Ford Motor Company 50th Anniversary Medal Booklet Panels Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! Rockwell's style is immediately evident. Thanks for the backstory.

Quote: No Model T depicted? Why should it? The medal was meant to celebrate something far beyond a single vehicle - even though it was a historic one. The Ford Motor Company was/is much more than the Model T!

Not to mention the eight or so letter models than came before the T was introduced when Ford Motor Company was already five years old.

Quote:Could make an entire medal series out of that. And it would hit. A series with all the models from 1903 to date would be impressive. And quite large.
