Quote: I am enjoying seeing all the old, old coins posted here. Such history on display! Absolutely! I was a kid in the early 1970's when I got my first coin from the 1800's, a Morgan dollar my grandmother gave me. I remember just sitting there and holding it, thinking about the people in generations past who may have handled that coin. To this day I get that same feeling with all my older coins, and especially in the last 10 years when I've started filling some of my type set holes from the 1790's. When I purchased my first U.S. 18th century coin, I recall thinking that there was a tiny chance that George Washington or one of the founding fathers could have actually handled that coin. The oft-repeated phrase "If only these coins could talk" is something that comes to mind, especially for the well-worn coins that had seen a lot of circulation back in their day...

Wow, I don't have nothing on you guys. My 1800s American coins can count on one hand 1863 Cent 1865 3 cent piece 1888 V nickel1900 Barber dime1902 Barber dimes (2) and 1902 Quarter Fake Chinese knock off 1795 Dollar brought for me by a feeble minded friend. But I do have a 1813 Canadian Token. In my previous collection (1993 - 2001), I had a 1830 Bust half and a 1853 Liberty seated half. Loved seeing all the earlies here!

JBuck pips me just slightly. My oldest American coin is an 1808 Half Cent, in about the same condition as his.

Oldest US coin I have is the first one a 1787 Fugio. I have a few State coppers that are a year or two earlier but they aren't US coins they're state coins. I have a 1773 Virginia half penny but that's a colonial coin.

A 1793 Large cent. I almost picked up a 1787 Fugio cent at the last coin show, perhaps next time.
