Need Help With Identifying 2001 D Nickel With Copper

There's also clear delineation between the copper and nickel. I could be wrong. Coin is dirty but looks like it could be an error if my memory serves me correctly Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 01/07/2022 6:41 pm But nickels are not clad. They are 75% copper and 25% nickel. So it might just be a discoloration or stain. If it rubs off, then it is surface. If it is into the planchet, it will not rub off. (chances are its not and it's a stain) Report this Post to the Staff

Lots of environmental damage can cause the copper atoms to concentrate at the surface layer of the coin, which is what this is an example of. Not a mint error. I was thinking the copper may have migrated to the surface or something like that but wasn't sure. When I seen these "rolling lines" I start thinking improper annealing. This has copper and roller lines. When I went to cash in some change this was in the reject bin after being rejected 2x with a lot of other coins Report this Post to the Staff
